John Molloy Gallery is pleased to present REPURPOSED, a series of recent paintings by Gerry Hayes that are presented on packaging materials.
Gerry Hayes’ paintings have been exhibited in numerous galleries and are in many private and public collections including the MUSEUM OF MODERN ART. For many years, he was a Professor of Graduate Painting at Pratt Institute. He has been working with packaging materials in his paintings since 2017. This use of the detritus of our consumer society to create art is a subject that has long interested the gallery as seen in the work of Shari Mendelson (plastic water bottles) and Matt Magee (plastic detergent bottles). Gerry Hayes’ relief paintings incorporate sculptural elements with painted surfaces that bring us to a new way of seeing. There will be an opening reception with the artist on Thursday, October 5 from 6 to 8 pm. The show will run until Saturday, November 11. |
